“For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy” (Colossians 1: 16-18)

Answers Science Fair

Did God really take six days?

Does carbon dating really disprove the Bible?

Couldn't God have used evolution?

"Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.  But do this with gentleness and respect." (NIV, 1 Peter 3:15)

You now have the grand opportunity to be a light in a world that is lost in the darkness of compromise. Relate the relevance of a literal Genesis to the world and the church today with creativity. Be the servant of God who fulfills the great commission by shining forth the light of God’s Word on some very important questions.

THE PRESENTATION

First, select a question of science, origins, fall or flood which would be answered from a Biblical worldview.

To highlight your answer, use a 36‖ x 48‖ tri-fold display board, and perhaps add that extra special touch by including an experiment or video display.

All projects will be judged on the basis of four criteria.

1) Communication - make sure your message is clearly defined, and laid out in a precise easy to understand fashion.

2) Neatness – text should be legible and correct, drawings / graphs / pictures clean and vibrant.

3) Originality – everyone likes to be surprised, and an original idea will open the mind to new horizons.

4) Age appropriate – No one expects perfection from a first grader, or sloppiness from a senior, just do your best.

Also, a hands on approach would be helpful to make it interactive. Remember, the more senses you involve the more memorable the project will be.

Finally, the projects will be judged in five separate categories: Kindergarten to second grade, third grade to fifth, sixth grade to eighth, ninth grade to twelfth, and a final category for families, should friends or siblings wish to work together. One winner in each of the five categories will be able to display their projects at the first ever ―Let There Be Light‖ Conference with Ken Ham and Dr. Menton of ―Answers in Genesis.‖

Welcome!

Greetings, and welcome to our blog!

We are a group of pastors and laypeople from the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, who were brought together to form the “Let There Be Light” Committee. The committee was formed in March of 2010 with a common passion to bring speakers from Answers in Genesis to the Buffalo/Niagara region.

Some time before, after having been recently introduced to the Answers in Genesis ministry, a few of us, who belonged to the same church, became eager to host a large scale Answers in Genesis Conference in this area so that many people could hear the truth of God’s Word proclaimed.  We were concerned that many people (even in the church) are being led astray, because the Word of God is being compromised with evolutionary ideas.

The small group of us began the process of planning this conference in January 2010. However, due to outside circumstances, we thought we were forced to give up on the idea. Just two months later, someone from St. Peter Lutheran Church approached me about assisting us with this endeavor. At the same time, someone came forward offering a significant sum of money to get us started. Furthermore, through our associations at St. Peter, we were able to make connections with people and pastors from St. Paul’s and St. Michael’s, as well. It became very clear to us that God wanted us to move forward with this project.

Since then, God has paved the way to secure Ken Ham and Dr. David Menton as speakers for this event. Ken Ham is the world-renowned president and founder of Answers in Genesis and Dr. Menton is a dynamic speaker with a PhD in biology from Brown University. It is truly a miracle that Ken Ham is willing to speak at our event. He typically receives over 300 requests to speak every year, and he only accepts around 30 of those requests. He also usually books an event two years in advance. The fact that he was willing to speak at our September 2011 event was another indication of God’s direction and providence.

God has also led us to the perfect venue for the event: The Conference Center Niagara Falls. Its event center can seat up to 2900 people and there are also additional rooms, which we can use for children’s activities. Located right by the Niagara Falls, it provides a great incentive for those who would be traveling from out of town.

We are so excited and humbled to be a part of what God is doing. It is evident that He has been working every step of the way. He provided the common passion and the initial funding that were the impetus for this project and has been faithful in leading us every step of the way. We can’t wait to see how He will continue to lead us and grow us in the process. We look forward to seeing you at the Let There Be Light Conference on September 17, 2011!
